Get

Involved

This initiative is about aggressively and confidently doing the work that God has called all of us to do. Here are some ways to get out there and help!

Explore nearby mission opportunities

Talk with your pastor and/or district mission board to see what you or your congregation might do to get involved in this synodwide church planting effort. Perhaps there’s a community nearby that would benefit from a new church? Is there a new demographic in your community that you could reach out to with the gospel? Learn how Home Missions can help:

You can start a brand-new church!
New starts could be a second site of an existing ministry (multi-site) or a daughter congregation. Home Missions can provide funding to help a new church get started and/or support from a district mission board and mission counselors.
GET CONNECTED
Enhance a Ministry!
Churches can request short-term, additional funding from Home Missions to enhance a ministry at their current congregation. This extra boost could mean the ability to call an additional pastor or staff minister, starting a new cross-cultural ministry, or even restarting a church where members have renewed their efforts to go with the gospel into their community.

Volunteer locally or

across the country

WELS Mission Journeys teams have the opportunity to be an active outreach partner as WELS looks to start 100 missions in 10 years. These new home mission pastors and core group members will need additional support from short-term volunteers as they reach out to their communities. Make Christian friends as you work side-by-side with a home mission church and be inspired to share your story of spreading the message of God’s salvation through Jesus when you get back!

Mission Journeys can also connect individuals with the opportunity to share their faith through a long-term volunteer opportunity. Mission Journeys wants to place mission-oriented individuals in strategic locations to assist in forming and developing quality core groups, the building blocks in starting new home missions. This would be a tent ministry, where the individual would have a job outside of the ministry to support themselves.

Let’s get the word out!

Help us promote

Use the multiple resources found in our digital resource package to promote 100 Missions in 10 Years at your church, school, Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) circuit rally, or other small group. Host a 100 Missions in 10 Years themed Mission Festival at your church by requesting a speaker.

Encourage young men and women in your church to consider full-time ministry by talking about the exciting opportunities that will be coming in the next 10 years. Ask your pastor to keep our synod’s work in your congregational prayers and provide updates on a regular basis.
