10 WAYS TO ENCOURAGE
A HOME MISSION CHURCH
THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25

One easy way YOU can get involved in the 100 Missions in 10 Years initiative is by encouraging a home mission church and/or its home missionary this Christmas season. All churches, schools, LWMS circuits, small church groups, and even individuals are invited to participate using one or more of the ideas provided below.

You can find contact information for all home mission churches on the interactive Google map found on the wels100in10.net homepage. Write a Christmas card to the core group/members or the home missionary.

Record an encouraging video and send it to the church or home missionary. It could be an encouraging message, a Christmas hymn, etc.

Set up a giving tree with multiple home mission churches and their missionaries listed on different ornaments. Have church members or school kids select one of the ornaments and send a Christmas card and other encouragement.

Participate in “12 days of Christmas prayers” using these specific prayers for home mission congregations.

Contact a home mission congregation to see if there’s a specific ministry need that you or your group could help raise funds for,

OR simply collect an offering to support a home mission of your choosing or the 100 Missions in 10 Years initiative. You could get creative with a Christmas cookie bake sale, a penny wars competition, Advent dinner freewill offering, etc.

Take time to learn about a specific home mission church or all the home mission churches in your district and share information about them with your church or school via social media. Tag the specific home mission church in your posts.

Create a bulletin board promoting a specific home mission church or the 100 Missions in 10 Years initiative (resources provided) and share photos with the church directly or missionspromotions@wels.net.

If you have a home mission church nearby:

Contact them to see if you could bring cookies or other treats for fellowship time after a Sunday service, collect items to help with any local “drives” they might be doing (food drive, school supplies, winter coats, etc.), donate items they might need for an upcoming outreach events.

If you have a home mission church nearby:

Visit their church for a Sunday or Advent worship service or volunteer at some of their holiday outreach events (Christmas for Kids, decorating church, helping wrap gifts for community members, etc.)
